Professor Gengting Dang is present chairman of Chinese Orthopaedic Physicians Association and associate editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Surgery and receives government special allowance. He was chairman of Orthopaedic Academy of Chinese Medical Association, head of Surgical Department and Orthopaedic Department, editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Surgery、honor member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and consultant of academic journal of this college.
In the past thirty years, he has devoted to the clinical work in spine surgery and research in bone healing.
First of all, in the clinical research of spine cord injury and cervical spondylosis, he expound the the etiologic investigation of the situations of the developpment of the cervical canal in Chinese, resulting the standards of the developping cervical canal stenosis, proving that the stenosis of the developping canal contributing to the occurrence of the CSM, advocating employing laminoplasties for the decompression of the cervical spondylosis, establishing the relationship between the developping cervical canal stenosis and spine cord injury, ascertaining the reasons for the spine cord injury without fracture or dislocation, which is the first report in the world. Meantime, his theories enforced the mechanism, clinical classification, surgery treatment and prevention of complications of the cervical spondylosis.
Secondly, in the realm of craniovertebral surgery, the deformity and the dislocation are one of the most difficult problems. By over ten years’ hard working, the clinical research and diagnostic treatment developed drastically. The technology of C1-C2 posterior arch particle bone graft under halo-vest, posterior C1-C2 lateral mass screw internal fixation, anterior release combined with posterior reduction and lateral mass screw stabilization, transcutaneous lateral mass bone graft fusion are newly ascertained by over 300 cases, which pioneered in China.
Thirdly, as for the clinical treatment and research, the surgery for the primary tumors in spine has entered a new era in the past 10 years, including chordoma, giant cell tumors, osteoblastoma and chondrosarcoma etc., which situated highly in the world.
Finally, with the establishment of the bone histologic and morphologic measurement laboratry, the experiments concerning the osteoporosis and the bone healing are carried out, including the Chinese medicine therapy of the osteoporosis, marrow matrix cultivation and research of tissue engineering artificial bone. And the marrow matrix cell combined with hydroxyapatite cultivating in vitro and reviving in vivo has been completed primarily for the clinical use with publishing corresponding 30 articles.
