The Orthopaedic Department has been founded for 50 years. With the great clinical achievements, nursing has also been drastically improved. Currently, there are 84 nurses and 11 of them are supervisor nurse and 24 are senior nurse. More than 20 papers were published in the last 5 years in “Journal of Chinese Nursing”, “Journal of Practical Nursing”,”Modern Nursing” and “Journal of Nursiology”. The nursing staff also involved in 6 published nursing books. 3-5 nurses
from others Chinese hospitals have further training in our department. The head nurse of this department was a member of Orthopaedic Committee of Beijing Nursing Association and is a member of Orthopaedic Committee of Chinese Nursing Association.
Treatments of Spine deformity, spine tumor and atlantoaxial disorders are very complicated. In order to achieve good clinical results, we also set up and many projects with regard to these particular diseases and other clinical basic nursing issues. In the last 5 years, we held 3 national nursing continuous educational symposiums successfully and also accepted some visiting nurses every year. The head of all the nurses awarded several times of “Excellence Nurse Award” in Peking University Health Science Center and Nursing Association.
Nursing is also highlighted by the dean of our department. Duo to the tremendous out-patient, surgeries, our surgeons are all overloaded. In order to keep good clinical results, as the backup of our doctors, we put much effort to providing patient education and patient care. And we also set up some new principles, such as there is at least one supervisor nurse in ward round-the-clock, and all the nurses are tested periodically to assure the nursing quality. In the meantime, we started using formula patient record system according to the demand of the Nursing Department of our hospital. Since the increased efficacy, we saved a lot of time from the routine job and the saved time is used to patient care.
With the efforts of all our staff, and with the excellent leadership of management level, we are doing better and better in nursing field. Our best medical service and the best management are not only recognized by national and international colleagues, but also by our patients and their families.
